Red Raspberry leaves are rich in calcium and manganese. The manganese is thought to promote oxygenation of cells while calcium helps with muscle contraction. This ability to help muscle contraction is why it’s been a go-to labor herb throughout history. Calcium and oxytocin have a direct effect on each other when it comes to labor and uterine muscle contraction: oxytocin releases calcium and calcium can increase oxytocin’s effectiveness. So this might be a good one if you are or know an expectant mom (this goes for livestock moms too! Goats and cows love the leaves).

If picking leaves from a plant, don’t pick more than 50% of the leaves so as to allow the plant to continue to be able to photosynthesize. If drying the leaves, lay them in a single layer to dry to prevent mold.

Inulin fiber in tinctures {see the cloudy bit at the bottom of the jar?} 👉🏼 this is a prebiotic fiber/starch that can be extracted from roots. Commercially, you’ll probably see it sourced from chicory roots but other roots such as dandelion root and echinacea root are also rich in inulin fiber.

It feeds the beneficial flora in your gut and can help balance blood sugar. It’s easiest to identify in clear glass as pictured, but it will often give a milky or cloudy appearance and settle at the bottom of your bottle. This is a great sign that your tincture is full of beneficial plant compounds! Shake it up before using for best results.

Pictured is my Digestive Bitters tincture, a blend of 5 different herbs and their aerial parts and roots combined. Helpful for indigestion, bile, acid, nutrient absorption, bloating, and all things digestion. You can find it ready to ship in my online shop! 🌱
