Water levels on the Monongahela River were much higher than usual, making this past Saturday's Duck Hollow riverfront cleanup difficult.

Manufactured waste is normally deposited along the shoreline, but with that area submerged our water crew had to look harder for areas to sweep. We ended up removing 414 pounds of waste from below Carrie Furnaces and the boat launch in Braddock.

Thank you to our annual Duck Hollow event partners, Friends of the Riverfront, for cohosting and leading trail maintenance! And thank you to our 24 volunteers!

You can join us at our next riverfront cleanup starting in Lawrenceville on June 6 where we will be partnering with Gay 4 Good. Register here: https://form.jotform.com/261454464905158

Friends of the Riverfront and Allegheny CleanWays partnered together on a youth educational outreach program - Roots & Rivers!

Our first session was a whopping success at West Mifflin High School last Thursday and Friday. Students appreciated getting out of the classroom to touch grass and ride the waves. 😎

They learned about the history of our rivers, the challenges they face, and the importance of land stewardship. Swaths of invasive plants were no match for the students as they ripped them out root and all, and Mr. Ben of ACW dropped some river lore on a breezy boat ride. ⚓️

A huge thanks to the students and teachers who helped us both in the classroom and on the Trail! And a huge thank you to the Grable Foundation for funding this
program.

We are so excited to keep this program rolling and continue educating students about the environment, stewardship, and careers in these fields.

April was the toughest month ever for Allegheny CleanWays!

Between managing the climax of our Immaculate Collection campaign and the ramp up of Earth Month cleanups and community outreach events, our staff were really feeling the burn.

Let's take a moment to recognize the extra hours and hard work our crew put in and give them a big THANK YOU!
