NRIEP Director Kati Csoman welcomed the Philippine Consul General of New York, Mr. Elmer Gato and Vice Consul, Mr. Paolo Marco Mapula. They were accompanied by the Philippine Room Committee and Filipino American Association of Pittsburgh (FAAP) members Drs. Jaime and Evelyn Abola. Zach Hartman, Quo Vadis tour guide, conducted a tour of the following Nationality Rooms: Philippine, Korean Heritage, Japanese, and Early American. After the tour, Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence Purpura hosted a dinner at their home in honor of the Consul General and his family. Consul Gato had requested a meal of the foods he missed so much. He was not disappointed. Either were the rest of the diners. The Purpuras served up an amazing array of delicious Philippine specialties. It was a delight for the eyes as well as the palate. It was truly a “Kapangpangan Night.”

US Ambassador to Slovakia Bridget Brink and Slovak Ambassador to the US Radovan Javorcik visited the University of Pittsburgh and toured the Czechoslovak Nationality Room.
