This cake actually started out as a joke and turned into reality.

Actual text message conversation about this cake:

B: He requests a “fierce carnivore” cake. Like T. rex velociraptor tiger rhino cake
Me: LOL. Tell him I’ll make him Barney the dinosaur
B: I told him and he said “that’s messed up”
Me: I needed that laugh today
B: He said fierce animals eating Barney would be perfect if there’s a speech bubble saying help me. I didn’t even help him with that gem.
Me: Love it.

So there you go – fierce dino eating Barney with a ‘help me’ sign. Because kids have an awesome sense of humor.

Everything is hand-cut and hand-modeled out of sugarpaste. Even the fierce dinosaur.

I made this cake over the summer for my son who REALLY, REALLY, REALLY wanted a Minecraft Cow cake for his family birthday party. It was one of those cakes that I wasn’t sure was going to get done in time. I had to make it in a HUGE rush (like in three hours) because it coincided with a day I had another cake order to deliver.

And that weekend was a hot mess. We had decided to have the party at Grandma & Grandpa’s house so I figured I’d just bake the layers for the cake there. I pack my sheet pan and supplies and off we go. Only for my well-laid plans to come to a screeching halt because for some odd reason they don’t have a ‘normal’ sized oven. Yep, that’s right – my pans were NEVER going to fit in that oven. Cue panic! I had to use 10” square pans and bake several rounds of cakes to get the layers needed. This of course set me back by HOURS (did I mention I was already in a HUGE rush?) and company was coming. Fortunately the frame was already built and covered.

FASTEST. CAKE-SLAPPING-TOGETHER. EVER. After I took the picture I noticed I missed adhering a square of fondant dangling on the front of the cow. But I was done in time for the party. And my kid loved it and told me I was the best Mommy ever. So I’ll try to ignore that half-adhered piece of fondant.
