🍊 Sááy Peel (Pale Ale, 5.4%) has emerged as one of the more involved collaborative projects we’ve ever been part of. Thoughtfully made in collaboration with practicing artist Ada Siobhan Griffin - It’s giving ALL the citrus.

Your new favorite summer sipper is on draft NOW at Trace Bloomfield. And now; a story.

Pronounced [ sigh • peel ] for folks wondering (we had to ask Ada lol), Sááy Peel is the Carolinian name for the island of - a territory of the United States in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands located in the Pacific Ocean. As the crow flies, this 44-sq mile island can be found just north of Guam.

Before moving to Pittsburgh, Ada and her family lived in Saipan - a stunning, tropical environment where the street she grew up on included trees that produced mangos, papayas, lemons and an equatorial take on the tangerine. Our initial kick-off meetings with Ada touched on tropical fruit and how important it was to express these flavors in the final product.

“Every Pittsburgh winter, I become extremely nostalgic for the island - where the only two seasons are sunny and rainy. I had never seen snow in my life until I moved to Pittsburgh.”
- Ada Siobhan Griffin

Folks who’ve been to Trace and had the chance to peek down Clement Way have surely noticed the free, legal graffiti wall on the side of our building. A literal rotating billboard of daily artwork, the vibrant expressions of spray paint have been part of our identity since the start.

When Ada competed in (and won!!!) a graffiti competition last September in the Southside (shoutout 🐶Max GEMS Gonzales🐶 for connecting us) - the grand prize was an opportunity to brew a one-off collaboration beer with Trace. And - after two attempts - our collab cometh.

When Sááy Peel hits the canning line, we’ll unveil Ada Siobhan Griffin’s label artwork - which ALSO pulls from the color palette of her original mural and drives home the citrus theme with a punchy colorway.

Hopped exclusively with Citra throughout the brewing process, we added subtle infusions of blood orange, pineapple and grapefruit to emphasize the tropical citrus expression. Come give it a try - let us know whatcha think. 🍊
