I was just thinking about the adversity my Grandma Madge had to experience being the first African American Model for the Kaufmann’s department store downtown Pittsburgh, Pa. A time where both her and Kaufmanns were trying to navigate being leaders in the new world of integration. Although Kaufmanns has closed, my grandmother’s fearlesssness left a mark on her legacy and I often see it within me. EVERYTIME I see this photo, I’m reminded of the marathon and it seems to always come when I’m taking a little breaky break lol I tattooed this woman on my back for this very reason! Her wings in the sky help me fly while I’m on earth doing what God assigned me to do 😇
