Spring is a good time to identify trees not only by their blossoms, but also by their buds.

Do you know your tree buds?

Who's up for a tree quiz? Identify these trees based on their buds. There are three different species. Hint: They're all native trees for wet areas. We'll post the answers tomorrow morning!

If you have come to one of our tree plantings you should know the benefits of mulch! It's beneficial to trees in all of the seasons - including winter❄️

Our TreeVitalize program planted 20 trees in McKinley Park last fall with Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy; here they are getting some TLC and cozy, insulating mulch! Just one of mulch's many benefits is temperature control. In the winter mulch insulates the soil and tree roots and helps prevent heaving (which occurs from the ground repeatedly freezing and thawing) by maintaining more constant soil temperatures.
