One more Flashback Friday for the month of May! Today, we're looking at Tree Adoptions and Education.

Last year, the Tree Adoption team distributed 6,216 trees at 34 different adoption events and through our direct distribution program! Trees went to 2,101 different households in Allegheny County. When we distribute trees we also provide adopters the opportunity to bring home tree protection. Volunteers prepared 1 mile (yep, 5,280 feet!) of tree protection! Thanks to everyone who volunteered with tree protection preparation, event preparation, and at events as we got trees in the hands of homeowners.

Every season is a busy one for our Education Department, and 2025 was no exception! They held 12 Tree Tender trainings with the public, municipalities, universities, and non-profit partners. They also taught our first-ever Youth Tree Tender training with students at Cornell High School. All of these courses resulted in 227 new Tree Tenders joining the ranks of individuals growing and protecting the urban forest! In total, our Education team taught 163 classes for youth and adults.
