Friends! The second issue of TREE NEWS is OUT 🚨 at www.treenews.info ! Tree News is a collaborative artist newsletter run by and yours truly. The newsletter is focused on tree and forest stories as entry points into conversations about climate change adaptation, ecological orientations in artist practices, and environmental justice. This issue is focused on a forest regeneration project located in Pittsburgh’s South Side Park, a former site of industry and mining that was left to the city as a barren hillside in 1930. Today, it is a site of regenerative forestry and ecological experimentation. We got ourselves through the covid winter of 2021 helping out, swinging pickaxes and chatting away on a slippery Pittsburgh hillside, and co-authored an article for this issue about our experience and research. The essay integrates interviews and archival images from urban goat herders, mushroom foragers, city foresters, resident organizers, and more. Tree News is available in print and online.
