Chip In For Children's Foundation

This year, we are excited to announce that we will be supporting the UPMC Children’s Down Syndrome Center (DSC). This center provides a comprehensive care model for individuals with Down syndrome, ranging from pre-natal diagnoses through adulthood. In more than 35 years of operation, the Center provides compassionate care for more than 1,000 individuals at six locations throughout Western PA. The DSC, through the dedicated work of two coordinators and a nurse, acts as a safety net for caregiver’s questions between appointments and by connecting families to community resources to help care for their loved one. Unfortunately, insurance reimbursement for patients with Down syndrome is inadequate when it comes to their care. In fact, insurance only covers 15 minutes of a patient’s interaction with the staff of the DSC when patients typically need 60 minutes or more. Now operated by a team of 11 professionals, the Down Syndrome Center continues to thrive because of generous support provided by grateful families, foundations and members of our community.
