Happy Winter Solstice on this magical snowy morning in Pittsburgh! Thinking back to Monday evening’s pre-solstice candle ceremony with during the Full Cold Moon Headlamp Hike — and what a fun challenge it was to share and protect our lit candles on a windy hilltop in Frick! Got a solo 10.5 miles in on the Rachel Carson on Saturday. It was blustery cold until I hit the first hill, and then warm and toasty — and sweaty from there! First snowy day hike of the year!

Thankful for being able to bring some magic back to this house…for all the memories it holds, and for all the people (and animals) that will spend time in it! ✨

Tomorrow is and I’m just over 50 miles in to my 800 mile hiking goal (through September ‘25). Last weekend, my friend Joe and I took on a wayfinding mission to find what was described to me as a shrine to Buddha in the Laurel Highlands.

I had been sitting on this hike for a few years after learning about it from someone in the community, and last weekend was the perfect opportunity to find the shrine. With only a Strava map, and not knowing what the shrine looked like, we set out to see what we could find.

For a while, it seemed unlikely that we’d find this simple, hidden spot in the woods, but we were lucky to spot it just before giving up! Definitely one of the coolest hikes I’ve done in a little while! What other hikes do you know of to atlas obscura-worthy destinations?

The Carr girls are in Colorado this week, enjoying some dry mountain air (cue Refresh drops), and adventure leading up to Lord Huron at Red Rocks later in the week.

We started the trip off with burgers and Botanical Gardens before making our way out to our barn in Longmont.

Dinner at the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse with so much chai and good food before a relaxing night in. “What’s that hair under your bed?” My sister asked. Turned out to be 3 Bob Ross wigs to accompany the Art of Chill game that we’ll have to play. Night one priority…hot tub!
