Mike Dooley has helped me remember “thoughts become things; choose the GOOD ones”

Mental Health Awareness Month; recently, I posted about the mood aspect of well-being presented in the New York Times self-assessment.

Today, let's talk about Self-Talk. STOP reading right now, please. Check in with your inner monologue (you know, that voice in ALL of our heads).

Is it speaking to you in a critical voice or a compassionate one? How does it typically weigh in when you try something new? When you make a mistake, does it beat you up or give you the benefit of the doubt?

According to Dr. Laurie Santos, a professor of psychology at Yale University, “Our thought patterns really affect our emotions and our well-being a lot." You and I know this from our lived experience, right? How willing are you today to change your thoughts?

Suggestion: if you wouldn't speak to your BEST FRIEND the way you speak to yourself, please STOP again and ask: what would I say if my best friend just experienced this [fill in the blank]. Care enough about yourself to say those exact words to YOURSELF! 😎

I highly recommend seeing Anne Lamott speak in person if posible. She's one of the most authentic authors I've ever had the privilege to see in-person! I can hardly wait to read her new book, and MAY consider a road trip from Pittsburgh PA to Ann Arbor, MI Kris Appel??

I am so happy to announce that I am going on book tour starting April 9 to celebrate my new book, Somehow (AND my 70th birthday). For more details and ticket information click here: https://sites.prh.com/annelamott
