This week's long form project is making a journal from scratch.

Yesterday at drop in the students made paper from kozo fiber. Kozo fiber is the inner bark of the mulberry paper tree. This is some of the earliest known ways to make paper.

The second project worked on was a chemistry project. Oxidation of copper. Using two methods, heat and chemical reactions. The students sanded and prepared there cooper pieces. Ashley held the blowtorch and heated the shaped copper bangles. Using a 1:1mixture of kosher salt and vinegar. The students applied the soultion to the copper. The mixture will stay on the copper for at least 48 hours or longer depending on the desire of the student. Wednesday the students will apply a sealant to protect the fragile patina.

At King 5th Grade, students explored physical changes in a truly hands-on way!

One curious learner tried to cup the thick, white mist rising from a bubbling cup of dry ice.

The mist forms as the solid CO₂ turns directly into a gas, cooling the air around it and causing tiny droplets of water to appear, making the transformation visible as a magical white cloud.

By seeing this happen up close, students discovered how matter can change its form without changing what it is.

A simple cup of dry ice became a thrilling lesson in physics and chemistry, sparking wonder and curiosity about the world around us.
