In rural Colombia, limited access to reliable energy and hands-on STEM education can hold students back from reaching their full potential. A team from Universidad de La Sabana, supported by the Industry Applications Society, is helping change that through a Solar Energy Mobile Lab that brings renewable energy and engineering concepts directly into the classroom. By combining technology, education, and community partnership, the project empowers students to become problem solvers in their own communities.

Students from the Transilvania University of Brașov developed a modular solar energy system to address unreliable electricity at an educational camp in Râșnov, Romania. Supported by the IEEE Fischer Mertel Fund through the IEEE Foundation, their EPICS in IEEE project delivers a renewable, reliable power source to keep essential systems like water pumps running while enabling educational activities. The solution combines solar panels, battery storage, and smart energy monitoring to improve energy security for underserved communities.
