Whether they know it or not, all small businesses are required to comply with the payments industry security standards known as PCI compliance.

There are 12 main requirements that, when not correctly followed, expose your business to data breaches and potential financial risk that may even end up putting a business out of business - It is important!

Today, we'll discuss 5.

1) Your payment equipment and service providers must use PCI-approved software and equipment. All MerchantZoom terminals are designed in compliance with the highest PCI standards.

2) Never store the last three digits in the back of Visa, MasterCard, and Discovery Cards, nor the last four digits in front of American Express cards.

3) Never store the data contained in the magnetic stripe of the credit cards.

4) If your system requires charging cards over time, ensure all data is encrypted (see point 1).

5) Keep any paper records containing credit card information secured and locked when not directly in use.

The last one seems obvious, but ... we have seen instances of credit card data lying around more than once or twice.
