Stevens Radio Service

Before you key up any radio, make sure you are using the correct type of radio for the service and frequency band you are operating on. Not all radios are legal for every type of communication. One growing issue is businesses using marine VHF radios for land-based operations such as warehouses, woodyards, trucking, or plant communications.
Marine radios are intended strictly for communications directly related to the safe operation and navigation of vessels on the water. FCC rules prohibit the use of marine frequencies for routine land-based business communications.
Using marine radios on land can interfere with commercial towboats, barges, emergency traffic, and other critical vessel communications on navigable waterways. This is not just improper radio use — it is a serious federal violation that can create real safety hazards for river traffic and those working on the water.
The bottom line is simple: use the correct radio service for your business. Marine radios belong on the water and for vessel-related communications only.
