Athena Acupuncture
In Chinese medicine, there are many aspects to seasonal observation. In the West, we have solstices and equinox to mark the lunar periods. Ancient China also has a complex lunar calendar, but another layer as well: the solar nodes. Every two weeks, there is a new solar node. Within each node, there is an ideal activity, specific plants to harvest, festivals, foods to eat, and exercises to help guide you through the year with ease.
We just began the first solar node of the year: Li Chun, or Spring Begins. This is the most festive time of year, and I suppose that helps transition us out of the winter doldrums and prepare us for the glory of spring. Eat dandelion greens, watercress, spinach, and chickweed.
It is a time to renew relationships, for we will surely need that to help us in the coming year.
This is the time of year for hope and dreams, and is a great time to pursue your visions and projects. But don’t move too fast! You need to pace yourself and conserve your energy for the bright spring and summer ahead!
