Playing in the pool this summer? 🏊‍♀️ Help your hair stay healthy with these pro tips:

🌱Get your hair wet before you hop in. Your hair is like a dry sponge when going under water. Submerge a dry sponge and it soaks up EVERYTHING! Submerge an already wet sponge and it’s absorbing much less 💦

🌱 Apply a conditioner, leave-in or hair mask to your wet hair before jumping in. This helps create another layer of protection to defend against chlorine absorption.

🌱 Always fully wash and condition your hair as soon as you can after swimming. Don’t just rinse. Wash and condition!

🌱 Clarify periodically. Chlorine builds up fast and can cause hair to be lifeless, dull, tangly or unmanageable. It can also interfere with color services. It needs to be fully removed for optimal hair health. A clarifying shampoo is designed to help strip away excess product buildup, mineral build up and chlorine. But be careful! The wrong clarifying shampoo will strip your color away fast! I love the Swimmers Wellness Remedy by Malibu C. It’s gentle on color and can be used regularly to remove chlorine and maintain hair health during swimming season.

🌱 Don’t forget to deep condition after every clarifying wash. Clarifying shampoos can be drying and you’ll need to replace moisture afterwards.

🌱 Lastly, wear a hat! Your hair needs to be protected from the sun just like your skin!

Well, that’s where I’ve been the last year! I needed to step away from social for a spell and spend some time learning to love myself more, seek a better understanding of my authentic self and just show up 100% for myself and my family for awhile. The break was much longer than expected but much needed to recenter and find my way again.

The last 3 days, I’ve been attending a business building and strategizing conference with hundreds of other hairstylists and beauty professionals from around the country. Wow, what an experience!

I realized it’s time to come back and join you all online again. I want to show up differently for you this time and while I don’t yet know exactly how I’m going to do that, I do know that I’m committed to show up more authentically in a way I haven’t tried before.
