If something happens to a tradesman who is working on your roof in these temperatures, and they pass out, fall over, and land on your roof system, they can be cooked alive and die in less than an hour. Don’t just get lost in a TV show or something else while a tradesman is on or in your roof in these temperatures. Please ask the tradesman approximately how long they plan on being on your roof or inside of your attic, and establish a check in time/system. If that person fails to check in, consider it an emergency and make the call to emergency services. Make sure they know this will happen if they fail to check in at the predetermined time.

LETS GO!!

Please be careful out there this week as we go from highs in the 90s to a week of 117 almost every day… even if you’re strong and healthy please look out for those that are not. Outside workers and especially those that work on roofs (cable guys, HVAC workers, painters, solar workers, roofers etc.) can easily die in minutes if they pass out or get injured on a roof and cannot reach anyone, especially if they pass out on roof tiles, which will cook a human being alive in a very short period of time. Phones often *very quickly* go into thermal overload, they shut down due to heat and they are useless. Roof temperatures are MUCH hotter than ground temperatures. Roof and parapet surfaces are often designed to reflect light and heat…Please watch out for each other, especially if you only have a single worker on your roof- leave your phone or TV off, remove earbuds, make sure to communicate with your contractor or repair person and find out an estimated time of completion.. watch the clock.. stick your head out now and then and check on any workers on your roof. Tradesmen, leave earbuds so that you can communicate with your homeowners, schedule radio/phone checkin windows with your workers, especially if they’re alone. Please share this post if you’re in a heat advisory area. Thank you!
