I had the opportunity to lecture at a dental conference in London. It was a very quick trip and I was planning to go solo until a month before the trip my 5 year old son Calvin told me he really wanted to go with me. Cal thinks it’s cool that daddy speaks to large groups of orthodontists around the world. He even asked once if the president knows who I am and I had to break the news that he does not and daddy is not at all famous like that. It was one of the best trips I’ve taken and I kept my promise to Nat that I would bring our big boy back home. On the trip I told Cal a story about my very first lecture I gave about 8 years ago in Paris. I told him that daddy was very new at presenting and the lecture that I gave to a room of 40 orthodontists did not go well. I bombed it and it was hugely embarrassing experience. At the formal meet and great / Q and A after my lecture, it was me and my host on one side and all the attendees on the other side of the room avoiding eye contact with me. Not one person came up to discuss, ask a question, or exchange pleasantries as was typically common. My host eventually allowed me to retreat away and I’ll never forget the empathetic look of embarrassment for me that he wore on his kind face. My immediate and incorrect internal reaction was anger and blaming the crowd for not understanding. At the time I told Cal’s mommy I never wanted to lecture again. I told Cal though, that my mommy and daddy taught me an important lesson when I was his age. Your biggest dreams are always at the end of a long and difficult road. On that road you will fail and get knocked down, many times. But those hard times are necessary steps along that road to your dream. You cannot avoid all of them. They are there to teach you and not to stop you. Be kind with how you treat yourself in those times and get back up. Eventually you realize the road itself is the real dream that fulfills you. I think Cal heard most of the story between bites of pizza, but I’ll keep telling him, I do like to repeat myself.

More BIG news.......
In 2025, out of hundreds of orthodontists in Arizona, Dr. Foster was honored as the #1 highest voted recipient in the category of Orthodontist in Phoenix Magazine’s “Top Doc” survey.
This is our 7th year in a row voted the #1 Orthodontist in AZ. Since the surveys inception in 2003, no orthodontist has earned that #1 voted recipient more times than Dr. Foster.
**This distinction is awarded by the vote of Arizona dentists, the honor cannot be purchased or influenced through advertising**

Dr. Foster and Natalie along with Grammy Pat and their 3 wild toddlers jumped the pond to visit London last week. Dr. Foster was there for an Ortho Town article as well as to promote an upcoming orthodontic course he is giving there in October. Between the narcolepsy and the tantrums we are confident that Butterfly Ortho left its mark on the UK!
