I am so happy and grateful to have been able to spend the weekend with .orchestra.phila and playing one of my favorite pieces of music: Bernstein’s “Serenade”. 🤩🎶🎻🥳

Loosely based on Plato’s “Symposium”, Bernstein’s “Serenade” is music full of wonder, beauty, warmth, humor, and puzzles. While most traditional violin concertos are admired for their melodic invention and heroism, this piece is like a kaleidoscopic view of the inner workings of Bernstein’s brain, full of literary allusion, rhythmic riddles, and ecstatic musings, to say the least. One of my favorite aspects of this piece is the fact that there are so many opportunities for intimate dialogue between musicians; the many solos within the orchestra make up for the most scintillating musical conversations within a large-scale work. And, of course, the glimmer, grandeur, and grandiosity of the colorful percussion section add to the musical party! 🎉

My immense thanks to the members of The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and Maestro David Hayes for having me back…I loved every moment!

🎥: The super fun ending to the entire piece!

📸 3: When one shares the same alma mater as the composer of one’s favorite music, a little school spirit is in order. Late-night decaf coffee to wind down after a weekend of highs…
