Living Well AZ Oct. 2012 10/03/2012

The Arizona Republic has a section called Living Well A-Z. They graciously included my next seminar in their October calendar and I'm so grateful. It's not that easy to get onto their calendar, but their editor, Paula Hubbs Cohen, felt this was a worthwhile class. Thank you, Paula!

My next free seminar is 10/15 at 6:30 at the Mustang Library in Scottsdale. Reservations are required. I will be educating the public on what is assisted living, the different options available to them, how to know when it's time and so much more. If you know of someone who is struggling with a loved one, please let them know.

Hotline provides support, resources for Arizona caregivers 09/07/2012

Whenever I do an evaluation for a family on the care needs of their loved one, I ask myself if there are other options that could be exhausted before moving that person from their home to a care community. Often, we decide that the family or caregiver simply needs some support and I then go about helping them identify available resources.

I want to make everyone aware of the article that appeared in today's Scottsdale Republic identifying a caregiver hotline to provide resources for informal caregivers.

As a former informal caregiver for 11 years, I wish there had been something like this for me. Please pass this information along to anyone that you might think is struggling to provide care.

"Your heart will tell you..." These are the words I speak to each client while we are touring care communities. They always ask me after the first or second place we've been to "How will I know which one is the best?"

"Your heart will tell you..." and then, I proceed to watch them carefully. I watch their body language, their emotions and their eyes. They almost always tear up when they see and feel the right place for their loved one. They tear up from relief that there is a wonderful, beautiful home there for their mother, father or whoever they are caring for. I know before they ever make their decision which one it is

"The amazing state of thoughtless awareness that can be reached though meditation easily opens the heart.... In the state of mental silence, when the head is still and relaxed, the heart starts speaking. And it speaks of love."
