Harvest India

In 1965, a nurse named Lalitha Kumari discovered
that millions of people lived in remote villages with no
access to medical care. So she quit her stable nursing
job in a hospital so she could walk from village to
village to serve people in need through providing basic needs. She then realized that this was not enough to end the cycle of poverty and began bringing books with her to her village visits in order to bring even greater hope and opportunity.
What began as one woman’s response to suffering
has grown into a movement reaching communities
across India. Today, Harvest India serves the forgotten
poor by meeting practical needs, providing education
that creates future opportunities, and offering places
of stability for those without a home.
