My German Shepherd, Daisy, had never barked at anyone before. But lately, every time my mother-in-law, Linda, stepped into the house, Daisy would growl — low, menacing, and constant. She snapped at the air if Linda got too close to my little kids.
It wasn't just a warning. Daisy, who loved everyone, even the mailman, clearly hated Linda now.
I tried to brush it off. Maybe Linda started using a new perfume? Maybe Daisy was just being overprotective? But something deep inside gnawed at me.
That Friday, Linda offered to take the kids for the weekend. Daisy went berserk. She barked so ferociously as Linda strapped the kids into her car that she nearly ripped her leash trying to get to them. Even after they left, Daisy kept pacing by the door, whining and growling for hours.
By evening, I couldn't take it anymore. I grabbed my keys and drove to Linda's house.
When I got there, the place looked deserted — no lights, no sound. I knocked. No answer. When I stepped inside, MY HEART SANK.
When Linda saw me, the color drained from her cheeks.
"RACHEL?? What are you doing here?"⬇️
