I wanted to share with you the completion of the Gigachron (Gigantic Chronograph) as I call my last clock design, that I completed today. (picture showing time in military format)
It took me a year between design, chassis fabrication, development of hardware and development of the program.
The vintage vacuum tubes used in the display, are 14x8 cm in size, they were developed as experimental for the Russian army.
I developed the hardware based on a minimal specification written in Russian that came with the display tubes.
The four luminous dots that separate the hours from the minutes and the minute from the seconds are also miniature vacuum tubes, Vacuum Fluorescent Displays(VFD) used as indicators on vintage mainframe computers.
At the front, I added a miniature OLED display, on which I display the selected time-zone, given that the time is read from a GPS chip in GMT (UTC) time, this clock does not require any other time setting.
This tiny displays also shows the hour simultaneously with the main one.
