Screen Frame Tip of the Week!

Question: Why should I re-mesh my screen if it doesn't have any rips or holes?

1) If you are wondering when a screen should be re-meshed, then the best answer is in the "Tension." Screen mesh tension is measured in Newtons. Many frames are stretched from 20-35 Newtons. Over time the printing process may work the mesh and it starts to sag. This will cause off contact issues, as well as registration and print detail issues. To check tension you need a tension meter, but you also check tension by pressing on the edges of the mesh and checking if it has excessive sag, or try printing with it and check the rebound of the mesh once it releases from the shirt.

2) Many screens will last years if properly cleaned and reclaimed. Keep chemicals away from glued areas and do not pressure wash inside corners of the frame where the mesh is attached. Small cracks will develop allowing chemicals to attack the glue.

3) Haze remover is very caustic and will eat the glue causing premature releasing of the mesh from the frame.
