Scar wants the prize, but his eyes are focused on me and my lead. He works for me. Is it a power trip? No. It’s a safety thing. It’s my job to keep this dog safe and happy. Eye contact reinforces the bond between handler and dog. The stronger the bond, the more clear it is to Scar what I want him to do.
