Rashid Johnson and Sheree Hovsepian have launched an artist residency in Menorca — five spots per year for visual artists and writers, self-directed, no production obligation, in a renovated 1860 building in the heart of Mahon. Rashid Johnson — currently the subject of a retrospective at the Guggenheim — has organized Directionless, a group exhibition opening June 21 at Hauser & Wirth Menorca. 28 artists from 10 countries. The curatorial structure itself is the premise: Johnson invited Charles Gaines, Firelei Báez, and Cristina Iglesias to each nominate artists alongside his own selections — refusing singular authorship in a show about living productively in uncertainty. For more than a decade, Claire Rosen's Fantastical Feasts series has placed live animals at elaborate banquet tables, photographed in compositions referencing Da Vinci and the Dutch vanitas tradition. On June 10, the series steps off the wall. A Gathering of Goats — produced by InLiquid at Crane Arts, with the Philly Goat Project herd as collaborators — turns Rosen's photographic practice into a live, immersive installation for one evening only.
