A hypnotic video of a rare art form 07/19/2019

For the love of stone lithography!

A hypnotic video of a rare art form Lithography nearly died out in the 1960s – but it’s seen a recent resurgence. Adam Proctor has filmed two printers going through the process in Berlin.

Star Wheel co-founder Elaine Erne is teaching a Silk-Aquatint class at the Fleisher Art Memorial this July. Silk-Aquatint is a printing process which has the richness of an etching as well as the flowing movement of a watercolor or the textures of a palette knife painting all without the use of acid. Using acrylic based materials you will make a plate and then an image on it that emulates the intaglio processes of aquatint or mezzotint with their full tonal ranges and deep blacks. These plates work well with both oil and soy based inks and are printed in the same fashion as metal plates.

Materials
Three sheets of Rives BFK
2H pencil
9” x 12” newsprint pad
