CHIEFS PASS TOUGHEST TEST OF THEIR SEASON IN 9-7 WIN OVER BROOKLIN

The Brooklin Lacrosse Club (7-8) hosted the Six Nations Chiefs (14-0) at the Iroquois Park Sports Arena in Whitby, Ontario. The unbeaten Chiefs, playing their second game in as many nights, were given their greatest challenge of the season in this teeter totter of a matchup that contained several lead changes and was tightly contested from start to finish.

FIRST:

Brooklin’s recently acquired star forward Dyson Williams (4g, 2a) opened the scoring just 28 seconds into the contest and followed up with another goal a little over four minutes later to give his squad something very few teams have had against the Chiefs this season; a multiple goal lead.

But a minute and a half later, Josh Byrne (2g, 1a) put Six Nations on the board and was followed shortly after by Ryan Smith (1g, 2a) tying the game at 2 a piece. And Andrew Kew (1g, 2a) closed the scoring for the period by giving the Chiefs their first lead of the game. Despite outshooting Brooklin 23-9, Six Nations only led 3-2 after the first 20 minutes of play.

SECOND:

The second period opened much like the first; Brooklin scoring immediately. But this time with Chris Boushy (1g, 5a) adding his first goal of the contest. And barely over a minute later, Dyson Williams scored his hat trick to reestablish the Brooklin lead at 4-3.

But all of 18 seconds would pass before Chiefs newcomer David Anderson (1g, 1a) answered back with his second goal of the season to tie the game back up. Over 10 minutes of scoreless gameplay ensued until Dhane Smith (2g, 3a) added his first goal of the night. And then Dawson Theede (1g, 2a) and Josh Byrne scored just over a minute apart to send Six Nations into the second intermission with a 7-4 lead.

THIRD:

A quick exchange of goals opened the final period of regulation; Latrell Harris (1g) scoring for Six Nations 30 seconds into the stanza, and Dan Lintner (1g, 2a) answering back for Brooklin just over 30 seconds later.

Almost exactly 9 minutes later, a pair of Buffalo Bandits exchanged goals; Dhane Smith added his second goal of the night, and Brooklin leading scorer Chase Scanlan (1g, 1a) responded with his first goal of the contest a couple minutes later to cut his teams deficit to 9-6.

Too little and too late, Dyson Williams added his fourth goal of the contest with 14 seconds left in the period.

Six Nations wins 9-7.

Six Nations’ Dougie Jamieson turned away 35 of 42 shots for a .833 save percentage.
