JUST IN: The CDC director Rochelle Walensky has strengthened the agency's COVID booster guidance.

The new advice means that people 18 and older who got their initial mRNA vaccination series 6 months ago, or a one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine 2 months ago, should now seek a COVID booster.

Walensky said the emergency of the Omicron variant “further emphasizes the importance of vaccination, boosters and prevention efforts needed to protect against COVID-19.”
