This week, PHL17 morning anchor Kelsey Fabian interviewed Penn Graduate School of Education doctoral student and United Negro College Fund (UNCF) scholarship recipient Kyra Williams and Richard Lee Snow, UNCF's Regional Development Director! Williams and Snow discussed the organization's chief annual fundraiser, the Mayor's Masked Ball, coming up on Saturday, March 21. 🎭

The fun-filled evening will feature a live auction with exclusive items and experiences, a silent auction, and raffle with coveted prizes. Attendees will don their finest fancy show-stopping masks and formal wear for a night of glitz, glitter, glamour and philanthropy to support the UNCF’s mission to provide educational opportunities for college students in need. ✨

Over the years, UNCF has raised more than $6 billion to assist more than 550,000 students paving a promising future. UNCF awards more than 11,000 students scholarships, valued over $62 million, each year. Since 1944, UNCF has assisted students to pursue their educational aspirations while supporting private Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) with critical operational funding. 📚

On May 17th, the Mann was alive with Black excellence, HBCU pride, and unstoppable energy as thousands gathered for the HBCU Festival presented by TD Bank—and what a day it was! 🙌🏾 .

From marching bands that shook the Pavilion to master classes that moved minds, this festival brought education, culture, and community together in the heart of West Philly. 💛❤️💙🖤

Here’s what went down:
✅ Over 30 HBCUs repped at the College Fair
✅ Career connections that sparked futures
✅ Food trucks, face paint, & family joy everywhere
✅ Local Black-owned businesses in the spotlight
✅ Live music, drumline battles, and special guests that had the whole crowd vibing
✅ Health & wellness powered by Jefferson Health
✅ A whole city showing up and showing out in their HBCU and Greek gear!

On April 29, I Dream Big Academy Charter School and UNCF-member Stillman College broke ground on a game-changing partnership—the first-ever HBCU-Charter School collaboration in Alabama!

Opening Fall 2025, IDB Charter will welcome grades 6–8, blending personalized, real-world learning with a focus on tech innovation and entrepreneurship—all tuition-free. 🙌🏽

This bold new model transforms the educational pipeline, creating a lab school for future educators, career-ready students, and a community driven by excellence and opportunity. 💡📚
