⚠️ Air quality is unhealthy across much of Pennsylvania today due to wildfire smoke.

Many communities, including Philadelphia, the Lehigh Valley, Susquehanna Valley, and Mercer County, have reached the unhealthy range on the Air Quality Index (AQI). Erie has reached the very unhealthy range, while several other areas are experiencing conditions that are unhealthy for sensitive groups.

Wildfire smoke contains fine particle pollution (PM2.5) that can travel hundreds of miles and enter the bloodstream. Most vulnerable are children, older adults, pregnant people, and those with asthma, heart disease, or other lung conditions.

Best practices include:

- Continue to monitor the air quality in your area because conditions can change quickly. You can visit map.purpleair.com to view live air quality data in the Pittsburgh and Philadelphia areas and across the world.
- Avoid extensive time outdoors and strenuous activities
- Wear an N95 or KN95 mask
- If you use an inhaler or have other important medicines, don’t leave home without them!
- Use indoor air purifiers on high pollution days
- Close car windows and set AC to recirculate
- Listen to your body and seek medical care if needed.
- Check on vulnerable friends, neighbors, and elders.
