Through the From Kensington to the Caribbean Sailing Expedition with SailFuture, a group of Liguori Academy students spent eight unforgettable days exploring the Caribbean aboard the S/Y Whatever It Takes, building leadership, resilience, teamwork, and confidence along the way. What they discovered wasn't just how to sail, it was what they're capable of.

Liguori Academy's student sailors are having an incredible time on the From Kensington to the Caribbean Expedition with SailFuture!
On Monday, students stepped aboard the S/Y Whatever It Takes, SailFuture's 100-foot sailing vessel anchored in Barbados. Once aboard, the crew, chaperoned by Ms. Sammy and Ms. Lauren, stowed their gear, familiarized themselves with the boat, and settled into life at sea. That evening, several students faced their first challenge of the expedition by pushing through seasickness.
By day two, students were feeling better and ready to embrace life at sea. They participated in fitness activities, safety training, a man overboard drill, and a swim test before taking on their first department duties aboard the boat. After a full day of learning and teamwork, they enjoyed some time relaxing on the beaches of Barbados.
On day three, students headed ashore for their weekly service project at Slow Foods, a community kitchen in Barbados. There, they helped prepare meals for those in need, putting the spirit of service they practice at Liguori Academy into action on a global scale.
On Wednesday evening, the crew began their 115-mile sailing journey to Bequia, working in three-hour shifts in groups of five as they learned to navigate and sail through the Caribbean overnight.

Recently, Liguori Academy students attended a Philadelphia Phillies game to help raise awareness about the new Opportunity Knocks Scholarship.
The Opportunity Knocks Scholarship is designed for students entering 1st through 12th grade who have been affected by recent school closures in Philadelphia. Through this scholarship, eligible students may receive $8,000 annually to help make a private school education at institutions such as Liguori Academy more accessible for families.
