On Sept 2 a small fire caused by a refrigerator was subdued in one of the studios on the 4th floor. It was controlled with only a fire extinguisher and determined by the Philadelphia Fire Department that it's cause was a small studio refrigerator, there was no damage to adjacent studios. However an ensuing walk through by the Fire Department and L&I resulted in the buildings closure for an undetermined period. In the 30 years plus I have been involved as artist tenant and rental agent for this community we have never experienced this kind of interruption but it is my hope that all of the tenants will be able to occupy their studios again in a reasonable amount of time.
