Final Touches: 3 days until our Malawi arrival! 💼 Double-checking plans and ensuring every detail is in place for a successful trip. Heather and I have been working hard in the background to make sure that we are not only prepared for this trip to Malawi but also that we are prepared to share our experience with you. It's not everyday that you get to see full-coverage of a trip to Sub-Saharan Africa. We hope you stick with us throughout the trip! 4 days until Malawian food! 🍽️ Malawian food is always freshly harvested and cooked! Four foods I’m looking forward to: 1) maize nsima (corn dough) with fish, tomatoes and greens, 2) mandasi (fried dough balls), 3) fresh plantain chips from the bus stop, 4) roasted maize from a roadside grill!

Seven days until we arrive in Malawi! We are practicing our Chichewa, a language spoken by between 7 to 12,000,000 people in Malawi, Zambia, Tanzania, and Mozambique. Up at the lake, where Kerry taught, the people speak another language, Chitonga, between themselves. Even if you don’t speak much, it helps to know the greetings in a few different languages.

We arrive in Malawi in 8 days!

It's awesome to see so many of my students grown up with families of their own. I'm hoping to see Tasiyana and Juliana, who were students in my sixth grade class. I personally tutored students three afternoons a week, and Tasiyana saw marked improvement in her math skills with my and her parents' help - that year she placed 12th out of about 70 students in the final exams!
