Artist Feature ~ Jeremy Hyman
Jeremy Hyman (Baltimore) reached out to us last September and subsequently visited the shop to drop off copies of his album, ‘Low Air.’ The album is stunning! And when we dug around we realized Jeremy is also responsible for the drums on the Lifted releases we love on Peak Oil and Future Times. A perfect fit for Passages? Of course!
Check out the album on Bandcamp, read more about Jeremy’s musical adventures below, and join us in the labyrinth next Saturday.
Official Bio & Album Announcement ~
Jeremy Hyman has spent a good portion of his life behind the drum kit with Animal Collective, Boredoms, Dan Deacon, Lifted, and Ponytail. In the last decade he began a slow and steady output of EPs on Max D’s Future Times label as well as 4 LPs as part of production collective Lifted. JH recordings, and Low Air, its first release present a new lense for Hyman’s solo output.
From years of collaboration with Animal Collective, Boredoms, Dan Deacon, Lifted, Ponytail and many others, comes Low Air, the first LP from Jeremy Hyman. Expansive and lush, but with an ascetic delivery reflecting decades behind the drum kit, the album consolidates a 5 year period of studio and live work to 8 pieces of music paired down to their essential qualities. Building on his dance floor tuned output for Max D’s future times label, Low Air expands into a broader compositional and textural arena. The paired down rhythms act like line work keeping together a wash of purling noise and understated harmony, while the compositions hang tightly to the urgency of the live moment. Low Air is the first release on JH recordings, Hyman’s own imprint, which will present a new avenue for Hyman’s solo output.’
