Once they bloom, they don’t last long. They smell incredible, and should be in everybody’s garden in my opinion.

If you want your peony to be loaded with blooms, you gotta follow a few different steps.

-find a sturdy circular trellis to hold up the stems and heavy blooms
-if you wanna bring them inside to present in a vase, always cut the stem just as the bud is opening up, not when the flower is completely open. They will last longer and you won't bring ants inside after easily knocking them off the buds.
-only cut a third of the buds on the plant. Leave the rest for fuel for next year‘s flowers.
-once the petals fall, cut the stem with the flower before it seeds.
-do not cut back the foliage until it turns brown in the fall, the fuel needs to go back into the root system for next year
