FROM NATIONAL NTEU:

IRS and IRS Office of Chief Counsel Issue Letters Seeking to End CBA, But NTEU’s Fight Continues
-----------------------------------------------------

Today, IRS and IRS Office of Chief Counsel employees received a message from the agency telling them that their collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) with NTEU have been terminated. This is because the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) recently told agencies covered by the president’s unlawful Exclusions Executive Orders that they should formally terminate all CBAs, including those with NTEU, even though litigation in court is ongoing. IRS and Chief Counsel then issued OPM template letters to NTEU at the national level, trying to cancel our CBA.

To which we reply: So what?

National President Doreen Greenwald immediately sent a response letter to IRS and a letter to Chief Counsel explaining that their piece of paper means nothing. NTEU remains the exclusive representative of IRS and Chief Counsel bargaining unit employees, our contract remains enforceable, and we plan to move forward with our grievances and arbitrations as a result. In anticipation of receiving these letters from IRS and Chief Counsel, we sent a letter earlier this week to arbitrators on our panels explaining to them that this means nothing in terms of our cases going forward. The arbitrators are agreeing with this posture and moving forward with cases – whether the agency participates or not. In fact, we just held a national arbitration hearing on Wednesday, with many more to come.

We won’t stop enforcing our members’ rights. Your contract rights. Your rights at the MSPB, EEOC, etc. Your rights to have your union petition Congress on your behalf for better working conditions. Or your rights in federal court cases.

An OPM template can’t stop NTEU and our chapters from standing up and fighting for you always. We remain steadfast in your corner.

We will keep you informed of more details as soon as we have them. Stand together with us in absolute defiance of this illegal attempt to trample on your rights.

... Yes the union knows how bad it is getting out of the parking garage at the end of the dayshift.
(And how that delays some nightshifters when it's really backed up and keeps them from getting in to park.)

Today's was especially bad (which is why you saw one of our people running up the garage ramps over and over to keep people informed), due to really bad traffic, a fire nearby, a couple gate arm issues, and such.

We hate to say this but there's really very little which can be done to fix this.
.. EXCEPT ...

There IS one thing that can help speed this up a bit.

If some people pull off, once they're through the upper gate, and go down to the lower garage exit (after which you turn onto Walnut, go over to 33rd, then up to Chestnut or Market), it will speed things up for everyone else.

No, it won't help YOU get out that much faster (but you won't be waiting to merge into traffic on 30th Street while you sit at the driveway with no one letting you in), but it will help everyone behind you--and if enough people get into the habit of choosing the alternate exit, it might help YOU the next time, when the people ahead of YOU do it.
