Cheddar Bob ACCT-A-234275 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs and behavioral concerns. Cheddar Bob must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER by THURSDAY, JULY 16TH at 10AM. Should Cheddar Bob's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Cheddar Bob first came to ACCT Philly as a stray in October 2025 before finding a loving home. He was heartbreakingly returned on June 18th after a house fire displaced his family. His owner hopes to bring him back home once they're back on their feet, but that likely won't be possible until August. To help make that reunion possible, ACCT Philly is offering $500 toward boarding for any rescue partner willing to provide Cheddar Bob with a safe place to stay until he can be reunited with the family who loves him.

Cheddar Bob is a sweet, affectionate boy who absolutely adores people. He loves cuddles, happily leans in for pets, walks nicely on leash, and volunteers consistently describe him as friendly, gentle, snuggly, and easygoing. Whether he's out for a stroll or soaking up attention in the volunteer office, Cheddar Bob is happiest when he's spending time with his people. While Cheddar Bob previously lived with a cat and had a positive introduction with a smaller dog at the shelter, he has also shown tense, reactive behavior around other dogs and cats.

Cheddar Bob has already lost his home once through no fault of his own. With a little help, he has the chance to make it back to the family waiting for him. Due to his length of stay and behavioral concerns, Cheddar Bob is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner.

BEHAVIOR NOTES:

Per staff 7/11: Staff did a meet with him and the cat in the office. It started off okay, he wasn't too interested. After a few minutes he locked onto the cat and got tense, he then started hard barking, pulling towards the cat, and whining.

Per staff 7/7: Dog Meet: Tense body, ears forward, mid tail wags, pulling hard towards Linda, open mouth, hard staring. Distracted Linda with a food lure to let Cheddar sniff, he snapped at her back leg, breaking skin.

Per staff 7/7: Took Cheddar Bob out for another dog meet. Walking through the kennels he was hard pulling and high pitch vocalizing. When he saw a dog outside he became tense, hard staring at the other dog at 20+ feet away. If the other dog was any closer he was hard pulling towards Linda. Attempted to have him sniff her, and as he went up while she was distracted he bit her leg, causing minor wounds. As we walked back into the kennels he pulled hard towards the dog in the crate that's right at the door. He went right into the kennel and removed leash with my hand.

Per staff 7/7: Due to behavioral changes, this dog is being leveled up to Blue.

Per volunteer 7/7: Medium energy. Very sweet boy, walks well.

Per staff 7/4: Medium energy. Just wants love, very friendly and easy to handle.

Per volunteer 7/3: Medium energy. Strong boy. Short walk, hot day.

Per volunteer 7/2: Easy to leash, came right to the front. Walked nicely on the leash, no pulling. Handled the dog. Wanted to cuddle. Gentle and calm. Walked right into kennel and unleashed without issue. Sweet and chill.

Per volunteer 7/2: Low energy. Easy walk, medium energy, snuggly.

Per staff 7/1: Medium energy. Moderate issues getting out of kennel, walking through kennels, and on leash. Good on walk.

Per volunteer 6/30: Medium energy. Sweetest boy. Wanted lots of loving pets, liked treats, great dog!

Per staff 6/28: Low-medium energy. Moderately pulling on leash, especially while surrounded by dogs in the kennels. Otherwise total lovable, sociable ham.

Per volunteer 6/27: Medium energy. Sweetest - bubbly and gentle. Love him. Super easy. Enjoys pets. Treat motivated.

Per volunteer 6/25: Medium energy. Friendly boy.

Per staff 6/24: Attempted to bring into playgroup. Did not make it past the fence greeting, as he was baring teeth and low growling.

Per staff 6/24: Medium energy. Will pancake if he's not done sniffing something.

Per staff 6/23: Meet went really well with potential adopter's small visually impaired dog. Both dogs were excited to see each other.

Per volunteer 6/21:

Kennel Presentation: Standing at the front of his crate with a still, relaxed body, neutral ears, and soft eyes and mouth.

Leash Skills: Stood still and allowed me to leash him easily. Walked through the kennels with moderate pulling. Peed almost immediately for a very long time once outside, then pulling subsided to minimal.

Sociability: Largely aloof in the yard, just wanting to sniff around and some exit searching. When he came over for pets, he leaned in and enjoyed them, then continued sniffing when I stopped petting him. No interest in treats. In the volunteer office, he solicited attention from several volunteers, leaning in for pets and maintaining a loose body, soft face, and mid-level tail wags.

Play: No interest in toys.

Dog Interaction: N/A

Return to Kennel: Walked in easily.

Color Level: Gold

Per owner surrender notes 6/18: He is great, good with kids, loves kisses, is just dog aggressive. Medium energy. Not housebroken and not crate trained. He loves attention.

Per staff 10/12/2025:

Kennel Presentation: When I approached his kennel, he was facing the other direction and doing a bit of a howl/whine. I called him over and he immediately got quiet and came to the front of the kennel and I easily looped his head with the leash.

Leash Skills: He hopped right out and has a very low gait, almost crouching as he walks out. He walks nicely on leash, then when he gets whiff of a smell he wants he pulls to get there and stay there.

Sociability: Waited until we got outside to do p**p and p*e. Spent the first several minutes in the play yard, sniffing around, and didn't pay much attention to me. He sniffed my hotdogs and then didn't take them. Very aloof in the play yard for the first half. After several minutes, he was more interested in me and came over to sniff me out. He took pets from me and was interested in sniffing my treats, however he never took them. His belly is upset, so maybe just not in the mood for hotdogs.

Play: Pretty interested in squeaky toys and they definitely get his attention. He will chase after them and didn't seem to fetch them back.

Dog Interaction: No face to face meets today. He did well walking by another dog and calmly walked by, then when we walked by again the other dog started snarling and lunging through the fence, and Rushlight started to hard bark and snarl back. Totally fine when other dogs walked by, so was just reacting to the dog that was reactive to him.

Return to Kennel: Needed some leash pressure to get back into his kennel, then easily unleashed.

Color Level: Giving gold - was aloof but easy with handling.

Per finder 10/10/2025: Walked well on the leash. Friendly.

Cheddar Bob is currently being treated for an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold." URIs are contagious to other dogs, but not to people or other types of animals.
