Interested in finding a simple way to connect to no-cost, community-controlled internet in your home or organization? With the help of our staff and volunteers dedicated to providing internet to our neighbors in Norris Square, Kensington, and Fairhill, we can assist!
Take a look at our work done at Kensington-based org The Simple Way , where we built out free Wi-Fi access throughout their building and into the surrounding neighborhood. We were also able to provide tech support by running hardwired connections back to their current Wi-Fi service for various computers and printers! 🛜📶
How does collaborative digital mapping come into play with an organization looking to provide free Wi-Fi? As discussed at our recent volunteer session, collaborative mapping allows for us to store and share street-level images that can be used to map infrastructure for installs around the city! Through our use of and OpenStreetMap, which make street-level images and map data available to scale, we can now micromap areas like Norris Square Park to assist in the planning for future Wi-Fi distribution in the community.
