Mawn Philly

Yesterday at the food fest jawn I got a tap on my shoulder, I turned around and it was my old ESL teacher from Francis Scott Key on 8th and Wolf. I went there from kindergarten to 5th. Ms. De Soto, along with all the teachers at that school were directly responsible for helping hundreds of kids from immigrant parents learn English. I was one of them. It was a rough block from afar but if you were from there..you’d understand the love we had for each other. The patience and dedication from these teachers helped us get out of where they put us. Much love and much respect to ALL teachers. Stand up for immigrants…we all have to start somewhere. You never know..that brown kid could grow up and win a James Beard one day. Yesterday, I was star struck.
