Today is June 8th.

On June 8, 1988, I entered Phoenix House.

I didn't know exactly what the future would hold. I only knew that I could not keep living the way I had been living.

Thirty-eight years later, I sit here in gratitude.

Not because life has been easy. It hasn't.

There has been loss, grief, HIV, ministry, family struggles, health challenges, recovery, healing, and more lessons than I can count.

But there has also been life.

Beautiful, messy, ordinary, sacred life.

Thirty-eight years ago, I took a chance on myself.

Today, I honor that woman who walked through those doors and kept walking forward one day at a time.

38 years sober.

One day at a time still works.
