A Montgomery County volunteer firefighter is accused of intentionally setting multiple fires, then responding to the scenes as a firefighter to help put them out.

Authorities announced the arrest of 29-year-old Justin Sholly, a member of the Perseverance Volunteer Fire Company.

According to investigators, Sholly allegedly set three separate fires in Souderton and Franconia Township over a roughly 24-hour period.

Police say after each fire was reported, Sholly responded with his fire company to assist in firefighting operations.

The fires damaged two barns and several vehicles, according to authorities.

Investigators say license plate reader technology helped identify Sholly as a suspect.

When confronted by detectives, authorities allege Sholly admitted to setting the fires.

Police also say fire starter logs consistent with those used in the incidents were recovered from his vehicle.

Approximately 18 civilians were forced to evacuate their homes because of the fires, though no injuries were reported.

Sholly now faces multiple felony arson charges.

The investigation remains ongoing.

⚖️ Criminal charges are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
