😿Xander is a 7 year old male who came in as an owner surrender due to aggression on 5/17. Owner noted that “he was the most loveable guy until the fighting with the other cats took it's food. He cuddles and has always been easily picked up. He has a loving soul and is adorable. He has a medium energy level and is litter-trained. Due to stress in the home he transferred aggression towards the other cat to me, probably because I smell like the other cat. He bit the cat he was fighting with, and bites while fighting other animal in home. He is shy at first with strangers & children, but warms up over time. You would only be so blessed to get Xander’s love. He's light on his feet, easily picked up by those he loves. Has been a lap cat, we have loved him dearly.”
BEHAVIOR
Staff on 6/2
“Xander was lying on his side in his litterbox when I approached his kennel. I opened it at first and went forward with the fake hand, and he allowed all pets, even leaning into head pets. I then tried my real hand and he was equally happy about it, preferring head pets & chin scritches. He even started purring!”
Staff on 5/19
Owner's cat Xander was going after her other resident cat. Owner attempted to separate the two and was attacked & scratched/bit by cat in process.
Per staff 5/17 (from owner)
“Pet behavior., yesterday, significant fight with resident cat through a door in their home. had been able to keep them separate for 2 years but yesterday the door was left open a crack and they were fighting and hissing and growling through the door. Owner tried to separate them and he switched his aggression onto her (scratched/bit her hand), per owner, "i became the other cat" thinks she smelled like the other cat so he got triggered and though she was the other cat so he decided to fight her. became very aggressive and chased her down. Nothing like this towards herself or other humans had ever happened in the 8 years they had him.
Owner says he is a nice cat towards humans just should not be with other cats. up until yesterday when he fought the resident cat through the door, has been a "lap cat" and allowed for all handling/carrying.”
MEDICAL

😿Little Momma is a 7 year old female who was intaked on 4/23. Little Momma came into care as part of a multi-cat household situation following the passing of a family member. She was living indoors with several other cats in a crowded home environment. She was described by her caretaker as generally friendly and litter trained, with an adaptable but somewhat independent temperament.
During intake, Little Momma initially allowed handling and appeared calm, but she quickly showed signs of stress in the shelter environment. She became reactive when attempting to move off an exam surface, displaying hissing and then attempting to flee across the room. She was later safely secured and moved for medical evaluation. These behaviors appear strongly fear-based and situational, likely related to the stress of intake and unfamiliar surroundings.
Medically, Little Momma is in good overall condition and is up to date on rabies and FVRCP vaccinations. She was spayed at intake while in heat and recovered smoothly from surgery. Her physical exam noted a generally healthy body condition, though mild dental concerns were present, including tartar and gingivitis. Ears were noted to be dirty at intake, but no major medical issues were identified.
Little Momma would likely do best in a calm, patient home that allows her time to adjust slowly. With reduced stress and consistent handling, she has the potential to settle and show a more stable, social personality.
BEHAVIORAL
Staff 6/2
“I went to say hello to Little Momma, and she was not very happy. She was lying down in her litter box, and hissed immediately & frequently at the sight of the fake hand. When I moved it slightly closer, she swatted at it a couple of times & moved back. Dilated pupils and airplane ears. I tried a few bubbles as well and she just hissed at me.”
Staff 4/23
“TTA - Intake nurse took patient out of feral den. Pt was allowing handling during that time. When pt tried to walk off examination table pt turned around to nurse and hissed. Nurse pulled back hands and pt took that time to jump off table and across cat intake room. Nurses stopped and let pt cool down in corner of room. Nurses asked for skilled assistance on catching cat. Pt ran back across room and under kennels. Pt was caught with a clam shell net. Taken straight to surgery for full check in.”
Per her owner 4/23
Little Momma was noted to be fully litter-trained, is friendly towards strangers & fine with other cats.

Little Momma was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) and started on medication.
4/23 Intake Exam
Little Momma has some yellowing on her teeth, gingivitis w/ red gum lines & tartar on back teeth. Her ears are dirty. Weight 7.38 lbs.

He has a medium energy level, and is very lovable with strangers & children, or doesn’t care with kids. He doesn’t react well to dogs, and has lived with another cat (a brother).”
BEHAVIORAL
Staff 6/2
“I opened the kennel to say hi to Salem and he was lying down on the top shelf of him kennel with her eyes half open. As soon as I opened the kennel door, he began to growl and move back. He sniffed the fake hand that I stuck in her kennel, but the immediately recoiled and hissed. The more I put the fake hand near him, the more he would recoil, hiss and growl. I went to grab a toy to see if she’d be more amenable to that, but he began to snort so I scrapped the idea.”

“ears flat, hissing swatting spitting when we opened cage”
