Just got back from Rideback Rise and super impressed by their latest cohort of filmmakers! 

The cohort this year is making some amazing films/episodics and it was so inspiring to see how they’re bringing fresh perspectives, bold ideas, and authentic stories to the table.

As someone who’s always been passionate about championing AAPI voices, I couldn’t help but feel this amazing alignment between their mission and mine. 💥

It’s clear that the industry needs more of this. Right now, the numbers are still atrocious:

- Only 6% of showrunners across all TV are people of color;
- In film, less than 20% of writers and directors are from underrepresented backgrounds;
- Yet, majority-minority audiences now drive box office and streaming viewership. The demand is there. The industry needs to catch up.

However, seeing the incredible talent in the Rideback Rise cohort, I feel more hopeful than ever. These storytellers are ready to break barriers and redefine the narrative. I can’t wait to watch them make waves, because their voices are exactly what the world needs. Especially now.

To the Rideback Rise cohort: Keep pushing, keep dreaming, and keep rising. I’ve been a strong supporter from Day One and will continue to be! ✊

What an amazing world premiere for our film FORGE at SXSW!!! So honored to work with all these amazing artists and continue showing the power of diversity and unique stories on the screen - especially Asian American stories!!!!

Just left an inspiring week at Sundance and couldn’t be more excited about the incredible talent I encountered - especially from Asian American filmmakers who are breaking boundaries and telling bold, authentic stories.

A huge shoutout to Katarina Zhu on her Triple Threat (acting, writing, directing) debut with BUNNYLOVR! What an amazing journey for her — I can’t wait to see what she creates next. Also, cheering on my buddy Perry Yung (aka Father Jun), whose nailed his virtuoso performance.

Wishing Katarina, Perry, and the entire BUNNYLOVR team the best of luck in the U.S. Dramatic Competition! This is just the beginning for all of you. So proud to be in your corner and rooting for your success!
