Pflugerville Fire Department
06/09/2026
Today we proudly recognize Vanessa Frost-Piedrahita, our Health and Fitness Coordinator, on 10 years of service with the Pflugerville Fire Department.
Vanessa joined the District after working as a Division I Strength and Conditioning Coach and accomplished Olympic weightlifter who competed at the national level. While her background was impressive, what has truly set her apart is her ability to adapt those skills to the unique demands of the fire service and become one of the leading voices in firefighter health, wellness, and human performance.
Over the past decade, Vanessa has helped transform the way we approach firefighter fitness, resilience, and long-term health. Through her tireless efforts, our members are stronger, healthier, and better prepared to meet the physical and mental demands of the profession. Her work has directly contributed to measurable improvements in firefighter performance, wellness, and quality of life.
Beyond her role as Health and Fitness Coordinator, Vanessa completed firefighter training and serves as a valued member of our Peer Support Team, further demonstrating her commitment to caring for the whole firefighter.
Today, Vanessa is recognized not only within our organization, but across the nation as a sought-after speaker, educator, and resource on firefighter health and wellness. Despite that recognition, she remains focused on what matters most- serving the members of this department.
Vanessa, thank you for your dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to helping our firefighters perform at their best. We are incredibly grateful for your service and proud to celebrate this milestone with you.
Congratulations on 10 years of service, and thank you for everything you do.

Last week, our firefighters had the opportunity to train alongside our partners at Bastrop Travis County Emergency Services District No. 1 on structure fire response operations.
Training together strengthens regional partnerships, improves coordination on the fireground, and helps ensure we are ready to serve our communities when it matters most.

This week, Travis County ESD No. 2 is proud to host another NWCG S-270 Basic Air Operations course led by legendary wildfire leader Chief Jim Linardos.
The course brings together personnel from across the region, including Travis County Parks, Austin Parks and Recreation, Austin Water, AFD, Hutto Fire Rescue, STAR Flight, APD Air 1, and Travis County ESD No. 2.
Todayβs field exercise at Decker Lake provides students with hands-on experience coordinating ground and air resources during wildland fire operations. Effective air operations require seamless communication, planning, and teamwork between firefighters, aviation assets, and land management agencies - skills that become critical during large-scale wildfire incidents.
We appreciate all of our regional partners who continue to invest in training and preparedness to protect our communities, parks, watersheds, and natural resources.
Because when the next wildfire occurs, the relationships and skills built during training are what make the difference.
