I felt like I adjusted my younger self this week.

My parents always tell the story that when I was a baby, I wouldn’t sleep or be comforted unless I was held upright. They were exhausted first-time parents with a very unhappy baby, trying to figure it out with little sleep and a lot of stress.

This week, a mama brought in her infant daughter — bright blue eyes, completely miserable. Every time she tried to lay her on her back, she would scream. Not just fuss… a scream that pierced her heart. Mama knew something wasn’t right.

The moment I heard her story, I thought of my own parents.

With my pediatric training, I knew exactly what to look for — pressure and misalignment in the upper neck that can make it uncomfortable for a baby to lay flat and settle. After a careful evaluation, she had exactly what I suspected.

With a very gentle adjustment, she relaxed. Big smile. Wide eyes. Could lay on her back. The whole room shifted.

Two days later, mom told me, “She’s like a completely different kid. She lays comfortably. She soothes.”

And all I could think was… I wish my parents had known about chiropractic when I was little (and they will tell you the same). I wish I could hug them in those exhausted moments.

I can’t go back and adjust baby me.
But I can show up for families now.
