A great album closer does more than just end a record; it contextually binds everything you just heard, providing a final, definitive statement. This wek The Rabbit Hole explores some closing tracks. Finishing with some fun from Van Halen.

In music, a supergroup is a band whose members are already successful and well-known from their work in other groups or as solo artists.
A supergroup is like an "All-Star" team or an Avengers-style team-up of the music world. They usually form as a side project, a passion project, or a short-lived collaboration.
This week The Rabbit Hole focuses on the music of supegroups through the decades.
In the context of music, when you hear supergroup, what band comes to mind?

This week's Rabbit Hole was inspired by an article from the staff of Treble Zine, "Our 50 Favorite Post-Pu2nk Albums of the 21st Century." I chose artists that I am familiar with and included some classic post-punk. Additionally, the New to Me segment featured Midrift, a rising American alternative rock and shoegaze trio based out of San Francisco, California.

This week The Rabbit Hole started with a breakdown of Van Halen's third album, Women and Children First, released on March 26, 1980. Produced by Ted Templeman, it marks a pivotal moment in the band's discography where they actively shifted away from the polished, radio-friendly pop-rock elements of Van Halen II to embrace a much darker, heavier, and more aggressive sound. It is also historically significant as the very first Van Halen album to consist entirely of original compositions, featuring zero cover songs. What caught my attention was the fact that the lead single, "And the Cradle Will Rock," features Eddie playing a Wurlitzer electric piano that he famously ran it through his signature Marshall amplifier and a MXR Flanger effects pedal to make it sound exactly like a dirty, crunchy guitar rhythm. So following the three great songs from VH, this playlist features songs with the Wurlitzer electric piano. I also threw in songs that feature other electric pianos.
