Polyscystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is now officially called Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) and honestly, I’m really excited about this shift in women’s health!! (It’s about time!!)✨

Some of my patients have probably heard me talk about how experts were working toward changing the name because PCOS never fully fit what this condition actually is. This is a METABOLIC AND hormonal condition that affects the entire body, not just the ovaries.

And the reality is… not everybody with PCOS has the classic “string of pearls” appearance on ultrasound. Some women have very clear symptoms, hormone patterns, insulin resistance, irregular cycles, acne, hair growth changes, inflammation, fertility struggles, or metabolic dysfunction WITHOUT those ovarian findings.

That’s why this name change matters so much. 🤍

I can often correlate this diagnosis through symptoms, history, labs, and metabolic markers even in patients who don’t have classic ovarian findings and when we start addressing the root causes, many women begin feeling better than they have in years.

Is this something that gets “fixed” overnight? No. But it is something we can better understand, manage, and improve over time, especially when we address insulin resistance, inflammation, hormones, nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, and overall metabolic health.

And that matters, because proper treatment and awareness can help reduce long-term risks like type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, infertility struggles, and chronic inflammation. 👏
